One of the most common traits of working with small businesses is the necessity to be uber-efficient with their time, staff and money. For these reasons, we’ve all heard co-workers, family members or friends talk about their struggles at work:
- Not enough hours in the day
- Wearing too many hats (too many job responsibilities)
- Understaffed & overworked
Instead of enjoying your dinner or cheering on your favorite ball team, your mind is asking, “How am I going to get this done, what’s the next innovation, where is the next revenue stream, how do I grow my sales pipeline by 30 percent.”
Sound familiar?
When you’re facing the issues and mindset stated above, it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll overlook your accomplishments… and that’s a problem.
Today’s 232sDay Marketing Tip isn’t really about marketing… It’s about taking a deep breath and never forgetting to celebrate your successes (regardless of their size).
On that note, we were lucky enough celebrate the successes of two of our clients in the past two weeks:
- May 17 – HalenHardy, a health and safety products company in Bellwood, PA recently won the 5th Annual Shale Gas Innovation Award for its Spilltration™ system, a revolutionary new line of oil leak and spill cleanup materials.
- May 29 – Grist House Craft Brewery in Millvale (which started as a college hobby by friends Brian Eaton & Kyle Mientkiewicz) celebrated its second anniversary with a celebration of newly released brews and roasting a few pigs.
What’s even more special about these two organizations is our personal relationships with members of both teams. Working w/ partners like HalenHardy & Grist House Craft Brewery – and seeing their success – is why we come to work in the morning.
So, when working in a small business setting, know that you’re going to be thrown a lot of curveballs. Sometimes you’re going to swing and miss, sometimes you’re going to slap a single to right field and sometimes you’re going to crank one into the upper deck.
So, whether you’re hiring your first employee, selling your 100th thing-a-ma-bob, winning a regional innovation award or celebrating your 6-month, 2 year or 50-year anniversary, be sure to give yourself (and your team) proper time, whether it’s five minutes or a weekend, to revel in the fruits of all your hard work and dedication.
