How does a friendly catch-up meeting turn into launching a company?

Nov 9, 2015 | 232 Creative News

As we begin spreading the word about 232 Creative, it seems as if everyone we speak with has more questions (some for which we have no answers). But, If you’re wondering why and how these two professionals decided start their own company and make their dream a reality, then we wrote this blog specifically for you.  Oh – and thanks for your curiosity.

1980something

Ryan Stetz was born in Dubois, PA; Mike Miller in Altoona.

2006

Stetz and Miller were introduced at a mutual friend’s wedding, where we both served as groomsmen (seen above).

Let’s move forward several years, ignoring a lot of boring details and pretending we don’t notice the weight gain and thinning hair.

It was a beautiful day not not too long ago when the sun was actually visible in Pittsburgh (for those from Pittsburgh, you get the snark). Knowing we had to take advantage of this rare occurrence, we met at a rooftop establishment to “shoot the bull” and possibly enjoy a beverage. Little did we know it would turn into our first business meeting.

After your standard life and sports topics, we began discussing our jobs, careers and what we imagined them to be if we could “wave a magic wand,” (winning the lottery was not an option in this scenario). As we continued, it became clearer that our visions were strangely similar.

Waking up energized and motivated the next morning, it was apparent that Stetz’ and my conversation was legit and wasn’t some meaningless ramble session that somewhere fizzled out in the middle of the night. This idea was worthy of deeper exploration.

We decided to meet a few days later, when Stetz and I began spitballing our skillsets and discussing the areas in which we have experience:

Marketing Stragety
Web Development & Design
Graphic Design (of all sorts)
Content Creation
Social Media Management
Public & Media Relations
Video Production
Advertising & Promotions
Relationship Management
Startup Experience

This time, our meeting was different. That flame that was lit from our first meeting wasn’t simply flickering…It was alive..It was growing.

With every new strategy and ideal we discussed, it was as if we were pouring gasoline over this whole concept.  It started growing some teeth, and this idea was becoming real.

Remember that magic wand I mentioned earlier? Well, we picked it up, and we waved that thing. We both knew we wanted to make this dream a reality, and we both knew that now was the right time to do it. So…

Here we are launching 232 Creative, a full-service communications and marketing company specializing in the areas listed above (and throughout the site).

We recently set up shop at Cube Creative Space & The Beauty Shoppe, a co-op work community located in the heart of the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

We invite you to follow and engage in our 232 Blog, where we’ll actively keep our world informed (and hopefully entertained now-and-again) with the following:

  • Marketing tips and strategies
  • Case studies from our clients
  • Company news and happenings
  • Lessons we learn along the way
  • Stories and videos that inspire us
  • Something really off the wall that we don’t even know about yet
  • Occasional contests to keep it light. Life’s too short to not have some fun.

That’s all for now.

If you’re in the neighborhood, give us a call, and let’s do lunch.
